While we all know about Zoom and its security aspects of end to end encryption. However, according to a recent report by Intercept, this fact isn’t correct. The proclamation has been made by The Intercept after they asked one of the representatives of Zoom about meetings that occurred through video calls are end to end encrypted. In reference to this context, the representative said nowadays, it is hard for Zoom to keep these meetings end to end encrypted.
However, The Intercept has added that the representative later said that Zoom is currently using TLS encryption technology to secure its user’s data. He defends this fact by including that TLS technology is much advanced than E2E and the fact that it is used by several internet browsers to protect their HTTPS webpages.
Although through TLS, your data or privacy remains safe, it is encrypted amongst the server and the users. It is much likely similar to Facebook and Gmail. Whereas the end to end encryption doesn’t allow anyone to access details of the users, and the same service is providing in WhatsApp. Precisely, Zoom is cheating with its users as in their terms and use, they have strictly mentioned about an end to end encryption.
However, Zoom is denying all these accusations after saying to The Intercept that their terms and condition says about E2E that means data has been encrypted between users whereas TLS secures users data between them and Zoom cloud. Additionally, Zoom also said that their chat feature is E2E as it is lack of keys to see those messages.
Zoom, in their interview with The Intercept, later added that their system only accumulates data of their users to make their service better, and their system also won’t allow them to utilize data as well as OS details and IP addresses. Alongside this, they don’t use or sell any sort of data of the users. Later, the interviewer of The Intercept asked that is it possible that Zoom would be charged or forced to submit the recordings of the meetings in judiciary proceedings. Zoom representative, after hearing this question, got stunned and didn’t respond to it.
It is quite shocking to know about big marketers such as Zoom is making fun of their user’s rights. Although in the past several companies have also false cheated their clients by making misuse of their terms and conditions. Zoom is one of the rare and advanced innovative to do video conferring, and across the globe, it has been praised a lot. Thus, now the news of the Intercept may spread despair amongst its users. Although no statement from any users, whether on social media or through viral videos, hasn’t come forward, but we do know that they will soon respond to it. Till then, we all need t wait to see how the users of Zoom will respond.
